I first met Joram a few years back whilst living in Heslinki. A random but typical (for BMX at least) encounter: a friend had been riding through the city and spotted a kid he’d never seen before riding around, just looking for spots, that kid was Joram. He’d decided to visit the city for a few days whilst his dad was there working. At that time Joram must have only been about 15 years old, but he was cool kid, level headed and a talented rider. From then we spent a few days riding in and around Helsinki, showing him the spots and parks, chatting shit and having fun.
One moment that stands out… There is a pretty gnarly handrail in the Kallio area of Helsinki, behind the church. It’s a decent length rail down a twelve set, but it’s on a steep-ass hill, with a down hill run-up into very long super fast downhill run out onto the footpath of a busy street. Luck wasn’t quite on his side though, as about 4 metres parallel from the bottom of the rail was a parked car. Joram wasn’t deterred, he sized it up and sent it. He slid the rail cleanly but with the momentum of the downhill, he couldn’t quite stop quick enough and ploughed into the parked car. Thankfully he wasn’t really injured but the car was a little dinged up, so we did what any good honest street riders would do, we grabbed our shit and split as fast as possible.
