Dan Lacey was born in the Sussex town of Rye, and first rode street BMX in 2000 at the age of 12. By 2006, dividing his time between the BMX hotspots of nearby Hastings and Austin, Texas, he was competing regularly in some of the world’s most prestigious competitions. He is currently sponsored by brands including Federal Bikes, Vans, DUB Clothing, Monster Energy, Primo, Seventies Distro, The Trip and Cinema Wheel Co.
Dan’s relentless determination to push the boundaries of Street riding is reflected in his signature frame for Federal, which is lightweight and agile enough for the most technical of tricks. With a 20.75” top tube length, the ‘Lacey’ has a modern appearance without compromising strength. Dan also has a signature set of bars and a seat featuring an inverted version of the Federal logo matching his own tattoo.
He made his first Street appearance in the X Games in 2010, when he finished 11th. Other highlights include a victory in the Street final at the 2013 Dew Tour Beach Championships – among a number of insanely technical tricks that he landed at the event was a backward grind to over toothpick down the rail, which also won him the Best Trick award.
Right now, Dan is universally regarded as one of best and most progressive Street riders around. He is able to land a rapid-fire succession of tricks on a complex series of obstacles, plus huge 180s and 360s over rails to flat, but is most well-known for massive 3s down stair sets.
