One of the Vans slogans is First in BMX. Vans have been making shoes since 1966, Cult have been making BMX parts since 2010 (although arguably long before that with the people involved) and together they make some interesting collaboration products. They’ve joined up to make shoes with different team members and with ODI’s help, they made the hugely popular Cult x Vans grips. Then, after the continuing success of the grips came the idea of putting the iconic Vans waffle pattern on a tyre. Waffle sole, waffle tyre... It’s all waffles on the ground. The Cult x Vans tyre. It makes sense.
“We started with the Vans Waffle grip and Neal Wood and myself wondered if it could work on a tire as well. We got lucky and first try it was dialled, molds can be tricky and expensive so to have it work first go was awesome." –Robbie Morales, Cult
VEE rubber were the guys to link up the design with a nice rubber compound, Dakota Roche was the guy to put the tyres through their paces, and scores of riders now rely on these bad boys to keep them on path.
Until Bas Keep came out with his Tall Order Wallride Tyre, he swore by the Cult x Vans tyre. We’ve all seen his ridiculous Walls video... Well, that’s probably the best advert a tyre could ever have. Yep, the tyre marks running down those unlikely walls were unmistakably waffle prints.
“Waffle sole, waffle tyre... It’s all waffles on the ground."
Cult putting their name to this tyre strengthens it from both sides. It means that Vans and the waffle print have found the backup of an undoubtedly credible BMX company, and it means that Cult believe in it enough to let their team rely on it.
“We are honored to work with Vans and they have been super supportive of Cult. Shouts to Jerry Badders, Sean Methven and the whole Vans crew for making this collaboration possible. We have new colorways on deck so stay tuned." –Robbie Morales, Cult
The guys at Cult say this tyre is good for any terrain – street, park, even dirt. We even know of some BMX race guys who say they’d use this tyre in an instant – if it only came in a thinner size! In any case, its versatility is supported by the Cult team’s diversity, not to mention the riders around the world who trust it in whatever discipline of BMX takes their fancy.
