Revisiting This Is England: Ben Lewis’s Top 9 Liverpool Street Spots

7. Tunnel Banks

Another of the OG Liverpool spots, never a security issue and good to ride night and day, as long as you keep your eye out for bagheads. The spot was modified back in the day by some skaters so there is a real awkward-to-ride hip down the bottom and the penthouse crew concreted a tranny at the bottom of the mid level bank which is also hard to ride.

The most famous thing about this spot is the gap from the top bank over the stairs to the flat, a big gap and a fairly big drop. It was made popular when Tom Blyth 360’d it in Voices and then when Battle Royale came to Liverpool everyone wanted a piece of it. Another often overlooked aspect of this spot is the rear exit which is a narrow channel bank and stair setup which Matt Wakefield wallrode down, proving new lines can be found in even the oldest of spots!

8. Black Rails

This is the newest edition to Liverpool’s spot list. Residing in the University area of the city and being quite a pain for security, it isn’t the easiest of spots to hit. The floor isn’t the smoothest and the rail needs tightening up at the bottom after you’ve had a heavy session but it is easily the standard Liverpool rail. Rampworx skatepark even has a replica rail if you want to ride a safer version to get your tricks down first. This rail has only been here for nearly a year but has already been in a lot of magazines, web videos and soon-to-be DVDs. Paul Ryan with the uprail to oppo whip is leading the race on this one but I have heard some wild shit called out so fingers crossed you will see that soon.

9. The 3 Stair

Another OG spot and also the standard meeting place for most weekend sessions. It has a big flat area for messing around and one of the only under shelter riding areas in liverpool even if it is just flat ground. At first this spot was just the 3 stair and a few brick ledges but as skills have elevated and some stuff changed theres now some 180 degree curved benches and a real low uprail among other things.

Never really a kickoff issue unless security are bored that day but its a bit hard to ride in the week before 6pm as its the main square in the university and therefore a busy walkway. It was the meeting place for battle royale and Dub jams so has seen alot of action and beers! Aaron Ross nearly pulling a tires to truckdriver out of the uprail is my favourite event.

This is the perfect place to chill in the sun, eat some food and drink soome beers whilst watching stunts and people go past.
