Red Bull Trail Loop took place on 15th October 2013, and was Mike ‘Hucker’ Clark’s attempt to tame the first full loop built into a set of dirt jumps. He had never gone for a full loop before, but details like that don’t stop a rider like Hucker – he is known as the king of wild set-ups, and if you’re looking for someone to take something crazy and make it real with a smile on his face, Hucker’s your man.
The course, built by Dave King’s Dirtsculpt crew in Pennsylvania, was finished on time despite a huge storm just before Hucker arrived. Passing on the crash pads, he landed the massive loop after a number of failed attempts, going on to do it 18 more times that day before coming back the next day when he did it for almost four hours with a break.
So Hucker fulfilled a life-long dream to feel what it was like to go upside down without his wheels leaving the ground. The resultant video was pretty epic as was the behind the scenes edit – building this loop looked almost as crazy as actually riding it.
“It’s definitely different than anything I’ve ever experienced in my entire life,” he said afterwards. “It’s the craziest feeling ever. After the first time I did it I was hooked; it was so fun. I just sessioned it like it was a set of trails – it’s not every day you get to ride a loop, so I definitely tried to make the best of it.”
