Simple Debut 2006 Frame

The Simple Bike Company is a relatively new bike company, headed up by Niels Thanild over in Denmark – they have a team, ads, website, and now frames. The first one to grace our offices is this model, and it’s impressive. First up, construction – built from 4130 cromoly, it has a front end of 1.5 inch OD tubes, a 0.9 inch OD back end with no wishbones on the stays, small 5mm thick dropouts, a subtle gusset underneath the downtube, and lowered chainstays allowing for the u-brake to be sited there with plenty of room for micro-drive gearing. The bottom bracket is machined for a Spanish bottom bracket, and the headtube is machines for an internal headset, with very smooth contours. The brown paintjob looks good, as do the two big sheets of hundreds of Simple Bikes stickers to place wherever the hell you want them (or in this case, where Steve stuck ‘em). Interestingly, the Simple comes with a much higher than average bottom bracket, around 12.5 inches – for what Simple call “a much livelier feel”. There are mixed opinions on this feature here at the Ride office, but Niels is an absolute shredder on one and he designed the frame, so… actually ride a Simple and then make your own mind up.
