Hollywood Flatland Jam: October 27

A good flatland jam will see riders from all over coming out of the woodwork and riding a glass-smooth car-park in no time. Stephen Scheuerer has been organising the Hollywood Jams for four years now, and with another on the horizon we decided to hit him up for a quick interview about the next one.

What are you doing today Stephen - last minute plans for the jam?

Today, I am sending out the Flyer to a ton of riders around the world. My plans before, and after the jam, are to just ride, and enjoy riding as much as I can.

When did you start pulling this jam together?

The first Hollywood Jam was Sunday June 1, 2003. I've been having two Hollywood Jams a year ever since then, and I'm amazed that I am already at number ten. Some younger riders have grown up from junior high school to college, and they have been going to the Hollywood Jam the whole time. I just thought about that the other day, and it blew my mind.

What's the idea behind it?

The idea is simple. It’s basically a laid back get-together for riders to meet up and hang out, and just ride all day. It gives the California, and Southwest Flatland riders a chance to all hang out together a couple times a year. It also gives Flatland Riders all over the country, and the world, a reason to visit Los Angeles, and see what warm weather and good times are all about.

Is there anyone sponsoring it?

Yes, there are five sponsors this time. They are Cream BMX Magazine, Diversion Flatland Video Magazine, Intrikat Productions, Orange 20 Bike Shop, and Sick Child Bikes. These are all companies that I respect, and I want to support. They have all donated tons of products for the famous Hollywood Jam Raffle in the past, and have supported the Hollywood Jam for the last five years.

What time does it kick off?

The first rider that shows up on Saturday the 27th of October, that is when it starts. People can come as early as they want. The majority of people show up between 10am and Noon usually though.

Who are you expecting to see riding there? Any bigshots comin'?

Anybody who rides flatland is Bigshot in my opinion! So it will be all Big Shots on 27th of October at the Hollywood Jam!

I hear the Far Eastern riders will show up anywhere in the world if more than three flatlanders gather in a tennis court, so are any of those guys coming?

Yeah, there will definitely be some Japanese Riders there that day.
