BMX Flatland World Circuit finals in AmsterdamFrom 4th till 5th August the top of BMX Flatland will again be competing at the 7th edition of Flatground. Flatground is this years final of the BMX Flatland World Circuit with previous rounds in Tokyo and New Orleans. The current leader of the circuit is Japanese rider: Shintaro Misawa with 1682 points, on the fourth position it's Germany's Michael Steingraber with only 242 points less. Since the entire top three momentarily consists of Japanese riders, the finals will be a heavy combat between Europe and Japan. With as many as thirteen riders from Japan, the Japanese seem to be determined to take home the title of the BMX Flatland World Circuit 2007.
BMX FlatlandFlatland BMX is considered the hardest and most technical form of stunt bike riding (source: ESPN). The riders use their entire bike to execute tricks on a flat floor on both front and back wheel. Personal creativity, style and control are highly credited. With these ingredients the riders create a mix of tricks, showcasing them in their own, completely unique run, which is judged by professional and respected judges. The BMX race discipline is becoming Olympic next year in Beijing.
Battle format
Last year we have introduced a new competition system in cooperation with BMX Flatland legend Martti Kuoppa, where the 12 finalists can choose their own opponent. With this fact, it's no more than likely that the Japanese will try to knockout Michael Steingraber as early as possible. Also the French and American riders still have a chance to win the World Circuit title making the competition even more exciting.
Flatground not just for the professionals
Within only six years Flatground has grown to an international BMX Flatland event where last year 120 riders in three disciplines, out of 30 different countries competed. Flatground is not just a place for professionals; we also have competitions in different amateur levels. This year we will also provide BMX Flatland workshops on Saturday and Sunday to introduce BMX Flatland to a new audience.Industrial location
The Docklands Hall of the NDSM shipyard in Amsterdam, a former shipyard that is currently used for multiple cultural purposes, serves as the visually spectacular backdrop of the Flatground contest. This location emphasizes the creative character of BMX Flatland. Saturday August 4 all qualifying rounds will take place. On Sunday August 5 the finals of the professionals, without a doubt the highlight of the weekend, will kick off at 3 o'clock, putting the Docklands hall into a frenzy it has not yet experienced before. The NDSM terrain is easily accessible by car as well as by public transport. Parking on the NDSM ground is free.
