My first Ride blog!

My old mate Mark Noble has asked me to start writing a blog here on the Ride magazine site. I don't really have any kind of plan or agenda so the chances are that I'll end up just waffling on about what I've been up to or I'll be casting my opinion on recent events in the bmx world. Mark has always thought of me as being opinionated and he's probably right. I like to think of myself as being 'direct' or 'honest'! Whatever, we'll see what transpires....

Lately, I've been at home a lot, just riding my vert ramp at Mount Hawke or the wooden park in Newquay (I live in Newquay in Cornwall). It's been so good not having to worry about travel schedules or contest runs, I've just been sessioning a lot with Toby Gresswell and the Newquay locals. Contest season proper starts for me next month and I'll be jet-set until december so I'm appreciating a bit of down time with the lovely missus but I'm also pretty excited to get out and ride some events.

So here's my recent summary: Recent aquisitions; a big bag of new tricks, an apartment in Dubai (got to invest that prize money wisely), torn ligaments in my shoulder, a new white '08 model Mongoose and some cool new TSG elbow pads. Oh, and a new Bell helmet. Recent initiatives: go to new apartment in Dubai and heal up for a couple of weeks before the summer madness starts (I fly out on thursday), write a blog for Ride website (the one you are reading), write a blog for Mongoose website ( do that tomorrow), stop stressing about my schedule. Recent fads: playing in a local pub pool team, selling expensive Audi and buying a cheap BMW, learn at least 3 new tricks every time I ride ( painful but a good one).

That's about all I can think of for now. I'm going to be at a lot of big events around the globe this summer so I'll keep the updates coming in from my travels and maybe pick up a bit of gossip along the way that I can share with you. My 'best event' tip for the summer has to be the Empire of Dirt thing in Devon (although I'll be in Dubai instead) or the Masters in Germany ( I'll be there with bells on). Until next time, Simon, Newquay 22/5/07
