California Dreamin

Yup, I'm here in Lake Forest, SoCal for a week and a bit, staying with Chris and having a little bit of R&R and whatnot, seeing the sights, working on the next magazine, trying to stay on top of emails and developments back home, and see what's what out here. Here are a few of me photos...

Firstly, we chose the cheesiest, most American rental car possible from Alamo; the Pontiac Grand Prix. My favourite part of this fine motor car is the glow-in-the-dark emergency boot-release handle inside the boot (sorry... trunk) which is handy in case you get stuck inside the boot and need an escape route. Amazing attention to detail, Pontiac! What a car. I love it.

First up, Chris's house is about ten minutes down the road from Etnies's massive Lake Forest headquarters and skatepark, so Wednesday night (BMX night) we checked it out.

Busy session - at least 75 riders swarming all over the place for a laid-back evening skatepark session on a warm southern California evening... good scene.

The bowl section is built for just goin' FAST.

This pool, on the far left hand side, is amazing. Get your carve on here.

The street plaza section was busiest of all; no wonder, this set-up (which hosted the etnies GvR skate contest a couple weeks ago) is dialled.
Last night we watched highlights of the weekend's Dew Tour Finals from Orlando: anything but a snore, the vert contest was NUTS. Zach Warden is someone to watch out for, this guy does whip to whip back on vert. Simon KO'd himself on a big five (he was in the running for series title), DMC KO'd himself on a double bars gone awry, and Jamie Bestwick's crank arm snapped as he pumped super-hard for his first air - it was SO bizarre, I've not seen the likes of it since Andy Ruffell's pedal fell out on the start gate during the Kelloggs Race Series in 1986. Jamie flew up the tranny like a cat thrown into the air and crash-landed so hard; his first run was therefore a write-off, he swapped his cranks for the second run and nailed second place, which was good enough for the year overall title. Chad Kagy, back on his bike after busting his collarbone at X Games, took the win here. Bonkers.
Anyway, good times here in SoCal... how's the weather back home? 'Cause it's roastin' here...
